texchan: aya with his bazooka, from WK OP #2 (Sanzo Chants)

Well, my time here in Vegas is quickly coming to a close. Thanks to some grossly overpriced Claritin + an extended stay in my hotel room, I have, pretty much, survived with my sanity and my sinuses intact. Well, mostly my sinuses ... since my sanity has been a bit questionable for some time now.

It is a bit sad that I come to Las Vegas, one of "America's Playgrounds", and end up spending almost the entire time in my room. I'm probably the only person who would do that. But, it's OK. I'm used to being a bit odd. Besides, I didn't come here for the gambling or the shows. I came to spend a bit of time with my hubby and to have some kid- and parent-free writing time. And, I got to spend some nice time with my hubby. And, I managed to get some work done on a story that has been stalled for a few months now (gonna work on it some more, hopefully, when I'm done posting this). So, I've accomplished both my goals, and this makes me happy and satisfied.

Tonight, though, I head home, back to my "real" world. We are taking an 11 PM flight, which is kind of an adventure, as it'll be my first time taking a redeye. I'll arrive home at around 6 AM, so today will, likely, prove to be long. But, there's a reward at the end, because I get to see my little daughter again. That's the most fabulous reward I could think of. It's so odd, really. I've only been away from her for a few days -- less than a week -- and, when we left, I really needed the break. But, I miss her. I just miss seeing that little, smiling face. I miss watching how much she throws herself into everything she does. I miss seeing how she faces a scary, uncertain world with her beautiful face and heart full of joy and excitement -- like she isn't afraid of anything. It's funny how you can miss someone that much ... so much that it's like a painful twist to your insides when they aren't around. I never would have thought it possible to miss someone like that, but that was before I had a child -- undoubtedly the most rewarding, most wonderful, most terrifying experience ever.

But, tonight, I'll head home, and, tomorrow morning, I'll get to hold my little angel in my arms. I've gotten the neatest "surprise" for her, too. She is nutso about elephants. She just adores them. And, as an elephant lover, of course, she loves Babar. We had a hard time finding them, but we managed to get her a few Babar DVDs, which she is well on her way to wearing out from watching them so much. This past weekend, we happened to drive by this charming little toy store in Potomac, MD. We decided to go in, and we found a huge, stuffed Babar doll. He's almost as tall as my daughter! And, of course, it was love at first sight for her. She carried him all around the store, commenting on how "Babar is a very big boy!". Unfortunately, the store didn't have a Celeste to go with him. They had had one, but it had already sold. We took Babar, of course, and I figured I would have to spend some internet time looking for a Celeste to go with him. But, on Monday, as we were walking through Dulles Airport, I look up and what do I see on the kiosk in front of me? Yes! A Celeste!

Oh, yeah ... SCORE!!

So, yep, as ridiculous as it seems, I carted this Celeste doll all the way from DC to Las Vegas. And, now, I will carry it all the way from Las Vegas, back to DC, where it started from, in the first place. Silly, I know. But the stores at Dulles won't be open at 6 AM, when I arrive home. And, I can just imagine the excited, shiny-eyed look my kiddo will get when she sees Celeste. I'm really excited over being able to give it to her. I can't wait!

Of course, about an hour after I get home, I'm sure I'll be ready for another break. But, hey ... that's life. ^.~ =P

hey there. just found night and couch potato this evening. you made the week - great stuff. I love your Aya -- stoic, determined, driven, and with a dark, snarky sense of humor. And Yohji being the laid-back blow-it-off hearat of gold kind of guy -- oh yeah.

Hmmm ... I'll keep a look-out, too. With both of us looking, it's just a matter of time before the "perfect" picture shows up. =P

...

And ... *GLOMS* ... *snicker*

This is true! I'm sure between the two of us something great will come up. ^_^ Or... something nutty and fun, at any rate. ^_~
