*falls over ded from exhaustion*
Finally, I managed to finish the layout re-do I have been working on for the cel gallery on my main website. Each time I go through a redo like this, I get to the end and, while I feel a huge sense of accomplishment at finishing a big project, I tell myself: "NEVAH AGAIN!!!" This time was no different. All told, this project ate up about three months' worth of my time. I suppose I could have done it in a shorter timeframe, but I didn't work on it in a vaccuum -- meaning, I snuck time away here and there for this redo in amongst my other ongoing projects. I've already had one person tell me it doesn't look any different, which rather irks me. Well, I suppose "irk" isn't exactly accurate. I mean, it doesn't make me mad so much as it makes me quite sad to think I put all this effort into something, and it doesn't show at all. Makes me think this whole thing was a total waste of my time. (bah humbug)
Anyhow, the website, itself, doesn't look different -- at least on the surface. I kept the same color scheme and the same banner graphics throughout. I might change those one of these days, but I still like this basic design and monochrome color scheme a lot. So, for now, it will stay the same. So, perhaps, they just looked around on the surface and didn't delve into the cel gallery itself, because I think the cel gallery does look different. Or, maybe it's just me. :S
I split out a couple of sections: Card Captor Sakura and Virus Buster Serge. I'm not sure when it happened, but both of those sections had grown too large to easily show on one page. I probably need to break down my Nightwalker section, too, but, so far, a reasonable divsion hasn't suggested itself. I mean, considering my penchant for collecting certain characters, I could do "Shido" and "everyone else". I'm not sure that would solve my problem, though, as I collect mostly Shido cels. So ... Nightwalker is something I'll have to ponder over for the next few days.
I changed the way I display my sketches. I am still displaying multiple sketches out of many of the sets, but I have sort of an "intro" page for each set, showcasing my favorite sketch, with a link to a second page, where I show all the sketches from that set. That way, I figure people can just look at the first sketch and move on, or, if they want to take the time, they can browse all the images from the set.
I changed the layout of each cel/sketch comment page, so that the commentary appears beside the image, with the screencap, where available, also nearby. Although this particular change took up the bulk of my time on this project (because it required rebuilding each individual page), I supppose, overall, it's not a huge difference. Which, really, is kind of depressing. But, I like the new layout, and I suppose that should count for a lot, in the end.
I changed the thumbnails pages in each section. I made the thumbs smaller, and outlined them with a black frame, and, although I'm still getting used to it, I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out. I also chose to display more thumbs per page, so there's less clicking between thumbnails pages. I figured this would be easier for anyone visiting ... although I'm not too sure anyone ever does visit. Well, except for me, that is. But, even if that's the case, it'll make it easier for me. *nervous laugh*
And, I suppose that's it. I still have a lot of work to do on things. Seems like there is an almost never-ending series of maintenance tasks. Many of the gallery sections still need screencaps or episode information, which is one of my biggest ongoing projects. I'm not sure if I'll ever be truly "done" with that, but I plug away at it here and there. Maybe one day ...
So, with the long-winded ramble out of the way, here's some linkage, in case you might want to check it out:
