Texxie's Summer Vacation Pics, Part 2!!

Our first stop along the way was Niagara Falls. We stayed there for a couple of nights before driving on to Toronto. Niagara is one of my favorite places, although I found it a bit more crowded than I like during this visit. Makes sense that it would be, though, because it's summer. Peak travel and tourist season. I prefer going more during the off season because I love the colder weather. And I really love the lack of crowds! No matter what, though, the Falls are always gorgeous.
Pics behind the cut, again.

The Horseshoe Falls, which are on the Canadian side of the border.

Long view of the American Falls (on the US side of the border) from our hotel room. The bridge you can see here is the Rainbow Bridge. It's one of four that cross from the US into Canada.

Glass sculpture in the lobby of our hotel.

Horseshoe Falls again -- because I can't seem to get enough of them. Gah. Just love them soooo much!

Skylon Tower.

Small street view of part of the "tourist" area near Clifton Hill.

Fountain in front of one of the nearby hotels.

Another fountain. Thought about change diving in here to pay for my trip! Hee!

Hotel window. I really love these light fixtures!

Date: 2011-08-12 10:59 pm (UTC)I've never been to Niagara Falls but your pics made me feel like I
just have! Is it really loud? The rolling and rumbling of the waterfall?
I imagine it must be like a train passing by but continueously!
Did you guys get to go on the boat tour down below the falls?

Date: 2011-08-13 02:50 pm (UTC)The Falls are pretty loud. It's not so super loud in the hotel room, since that is some distance away. But you can still hear them, even up high and away from the water and through the thick window glass. The noise is kind of a constant presence, which is a bit unnerving at first, but you can get used to it pretty quickly. I kind of miss the sound once we leave.
We didn't go on the Maid of the Mist -- the boat that does the up-close tours of Niagara Falls. The tours are always crowded, and I am a bit hesitant to get that close. No matter how much I love them, I find the thought of getting so close makes me super nervous -- particularly the whirlpool at the bottom of Horseshoe Falls! (Plus, I never want to get that wet. LOL)
You should go! It's really gorgeous!!!

Its all brown and dingy looking here ;__;) The water droplets above the leaves is soooo nifty. And I really like the photo of the light fixtures through the window too.
Envying your trip!!

That was my first calendar-making attempt. But it was kind of fun!

Date: 2011-08-13 02:46 pm (UTC)Thanks for the kind words on the plant photos. I seem always to want to snap pics of them. I love echinacea!! (Although I'm so glad you mentioned its official name, as I had forgotten what ti was.) I think it's such a pretty flower. Too bad yours has lost color. =(
It was a fun trip, although more work than originally planned since we decided to take EVERYONE with us. Poor planning on our part. >.O
Thanks again! *hugs*
