This is the first of what will, likely, be several posts about various projects. For a while, I've had this idea of posting about the different things I do or projects I try. I've never done it, partly because I don't think anyone would be interested ... partly because I often forget to take photos while working on stuff ... and, well, partly because I'm just lazy.

But (!!) I've decided to make an effort at keeping track of projects. Even if no one is interested, it'll be a good record for me.

And so ... my first project post is for Teacher Appreciation Week, 2011. (Actually, I think it was officially called "Staff Appreciation Week", but whatever. >.O) I guess every school across the country did this, as I know a couple of my friends from Texas posted about their stuff from this particular week, and they were doing the same things we were. Let's see ... at our school we did the following:

Monday: Flower Day
Tuesday: Appreciation Breakfast
Wednesday: Make it Yourself Day
Thursday: Poems and Pizza Day
Friday: Chocolate Fountain Day

I made flower arrangements for Monday and simple crane mobiles for Wednesday. (And we donated for Tuesday and Friday, sparing the poor teachers from our bad poetry for Thursday. LOL)

So ... pics!

FLOWER DAY:

Flowers 1

I made 5 bouquets, total, for Flower Day. Four of them (in plain white coffee cups) were for teachers. (Kiddo's current teacher -- 2nd grade -- and her teachers from past years.) The last one, in the striped vase, was for the ladies in the office. I also drew tag cards for each bouquet.

Flowers 2

Close up of one of the teacher bouquets. I was pretty slow/late in gathering my supplies for this project, so the store was painfully picked over by the time I got there. I lucked out and found two bunches of orange/yellow roses (dozen each) and two bunches of sunflowers (3 each), which gave me plenty to work with ... and colors that I loved. The sunflowers look kind of sad in these pics, but they were gorgeous a day or so later, when they opened all the way.

Flowers 3

Another close-up of a teacher bouquet.

MAKE IT YOURSELF DAY:

Crane Mobile 1

Kind of hard to see here, but this is a shot of one of the completed mobiles. It was a super simple design, although I folded the cranes myself, which took much longer than it should have. (I am super out of practice!). I wanted something cute but also simple and easy to put together. I made two of these, for kiddo's current teacher (2nd grade) and for her first grade teacher. I would have done the kindergarten teachers, too, but I kind of ran out of steam in the midst of folding all the cranes. >.O

Crane Mobile 2

Close-up of the end of one of the mobiles. The bead beneath the crane is glass, and it has a flower design embedded in it. I used hemp cord to string the mobile, and included a silver dangle at the end. It says "laugh" on it ... I think. There were a couple of sayings, but I'm pretty sure I put "laugh" on the mobiles.

Crane Mobile 3

Close-up of the top of one of the mobiles. I wanted to do "fancy" hooks for them. On this one, I used a silver earring blank, made for dangle earrings. It looks like vines twisting around into a hook shape. On the other one, I used one half of a silver necklace clasp, which had a ring of pansies on it. (The curlique hook at the very top isn't part of the mobile. It's just a hook I use for hanging a favorite ornament in the office.)

Thanks for sharing -- they're lovely!

(I also got a chuckle at the "augh" -- which I assume is really "laugh" -- that the mobile is dangling from).

Thanks! I had fun making them, and was glad they turned out fairly OK.

And LOLz!! I hadn't noticed the "augh". It is "Laugh" ... although "augh" is more appropriate for me most of the time. Hee!!

*snicker* And that "augh" should probably have a few exclamation points after it as well. ^_~

Pretty! ^_^ I hope you're not taking on too many projects and having no time to write, though.

LOLz! So true about the exclamation points -- the more of those, the better. ^.~

Thanks!!

As for writing, that's pretty much a no-go right now for me. All the mental/emotional issues I've been dealing with have blocked me in a bad way. I think it's been about 9 or 10 months since I've last been able to write. My therapist keeps telling me it'll come back eventually, so I hope that's true. In the meantime, I've been grasping at pretty much anything to keep my creative juices flowing.
