The holiday weekend was a mixed bag. We traveled last weekend, so that was kind of our "holiday"-type of getaway. Lucky thing, too, as we missed the crowds and stuff which, I'm sure, descended on Williamsburg and Busch Gardens this past weekend. So we hadn't planned on going anywhere or doing anything super special -- which turned out to be a good thing.
Saturday, kiddo had a playdate at a friend's house, and we had plans to have dinner with some friends that evening. Everything went pretty well on Saturday. Dropped kiddo at her playdate, and hubby and I went to the grocery store. Shopping was a mixed bag. I like not having to grocery shop by myself, as it's one of my least favorite household chores. On the flip side, going with my hubby can be kind of frustrating because he never takes a list. And, if we take the list, he never follows it. I'm a "list person". I like to have a list, and, pretty much, I don't stray from what's on there. I think this is probably a sign that I'm way, way too "Type A" or something, but ... *nervous laugh* Dinner with the friends on Saturday night was really great, too. Good conversation, good friends, good food. Couldn't ask for more.
Sunday, kiddo was supposed to go to a birthday party. She woke up Sunday AM feeling horrible. Stomach cramps ... and everything that goes with it. >.O She was so miserable that she actually told me she didn't want to go to the party. Now, that's a bad sign! I ended up having to call her friend's mom to tell them we couldn't make it and explain why. I felt so bad about the last-minute timing, too. Of course, I ended up leaving a message on their answering machine, tendering our regrets and asking when I could drop the gift off. I haven't heard from them, so I'm a bit worried they are mad at us for the whole last-minute thing. Hopefully they were just busy over the holiday and all. If I don't hear anything in a day or two, I'll try calling again.
Monday, at 7 AM, my kiddo woke me up screaming because her stomach hurt so bad. She could not stop crying because the pain was horrible. And she couldn't really sit up or stand or anything like that. I had no idea what to do. I mean, this wasn't like any stomach virus type of thing I had ever seen. And of course, it being a holiday, her pediatrician's office was closed. I had called and spoken to the on-call person at the dr's office on Sunday. They had told me they thought it was probably a stomach virus, and that this type of thing had been going around a lot. But, they said I should call back if it got worse. Deeming it worse, I called back on Monday. I got the on-call nurse, who could hear my daughter screaming in the background. The nurse told me to take her to the ER right away, which, honestly, made me feel relieved. My first instinct was to take her to the ER, because I was afraid she had appendicitis. At the same time, I didn't want to overreact, since they had told me the day before it was likely a stomach virus.
So, off to the ER we went. We spent the better part of the afternoon waiting there. Luckily, my kiddo's stomach cramps tapered off somewhat, so that she was able to stand up and walk around and stuff. She still felt pretty crummy, but not to the point where she was screaming and crying in pain. We had two people come by to assess her: a nurse-practitioner and an attending doctor, and both agreed with the pediatrician's initial diagnosis of stomach virus. They told me they had been seeing a lot of kids with these same symptoms, and, in particular, with extremely painful cramps. They tested and checked for appendicitis and she did not have that, which was a relief.
Unfortunately, being a stomach virus, there wasn't much of anything I could do for her. She was miserable and in pain most of the day on Sunday. We spent a lot of time snuggling together and reading together. I hate when she is sick and I can't do anything to help. It hurts me. I would much rather I be the one who is sick, instead of her.
She finally fell asleep around 8 PM last night and slept all the way through till around 9 this morning. And she woke up feeling much better. She told me her stomach still hurts a little, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. And none of the "other ick" that went with the stomach cramps yesterday. I hope this means she is on the mend.
At the beginning of the weekend, I told myself that I was going to get the new prologue finished by the end of the long weekend. I should have known better. I think I totally jinxed myself. Needless to say, the weekend was spent taking care of the sick kiddo -- which is what I needed to do, and I don't begrudge that at all -- and I didn't finish the prologue. Oh well, at least I missed my self-imposed goal for a good reason, as opposed to missing it just because I was goofing off or something. I did manage to make progress on it, which was pretty good, all things considered.
And now, for the super-duper good part ...
I got to meet
ladybuggington and
ravenmichiru today! They were passing through on their way home from vacation, and we managed to get together at a Panera Bread close to my house. I was so, so excited about finally getting to meet them, and it was a lot of fun. I had a great visit, so I hope they did, too. (Thanks for getting together with me, you guys! *hugs* =D)

Date: 2010-06-02 10:41 pm (UTC)Hopefully, I won't catch it. Usually, if anyone in the family gets sick, it's me -- just because I'm the one who takes care of everyone who's sick. >.O
Thanks for the thoughts! *GLOMS*

Date: 2010-06-02 10:43 pm (UTC)It was pretty scary, particularly with her in so much pain. That really had me freaked out, but I'm glad it turned out to be something not so serious. It seems like she's totally better today, so I think she can go to school tomorrow. I'm so happy that she's feeling better. *relieved*

Date: 2010-06-02 10:44 pm (UTC)She seems totally fine today. She even managed to eat regular (as in not bland) food today without it bothering her system. I think she should be able to go to school tomorrow, which is awesome. It makes me happy that she's feeling better. I hate it when she is sick.
