Or "Girls' Weekend", really. Hubby is out of town until Saturday. And kiddo has no school tomorrow, so I told her she could stay up late tonight. We just finished her bath routine, and now we are settling in to watch Howl's Moving Castle. I so love this movie, but it's been quite a while since I've seen it. I promised her yesterday that we would watch it together tonight, and I've really been looking forward to it. I think kiddo has, too. She's pretty excited about it. (She loves this movie, too.) I really want to watch Spirited Away, but she got scared the last time we tried watching it together. The part where the parents turn into pigs really freaked her out. I'm kind of tempted to try it again, but I'm not sure she's quite old enough yet. Maybe in a few more months we'll give it another try.

We got a new water heater today. New water heater, expansion tank, new shut-off valves, and quite a lot of nice, new pipes. It really ended up being quite a nice upgrade, and I think it'll be a nice thing for the house, overall. It was expensive -- and an unexpected expense, at that -- but I guess it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Of course, if I had known the water heater was going to give up the ghost, I wouldn't have done the custom closet upgrade that's scheduled to happen on Sunday. Ah well.

Gotta run now. The movie is starting!! =D

Heh. Yeah, the whole turning into pigs thing is really super creepy. I also can't show her Princess Mononoke because of how they cut off the forest god's head and stuff. I tried watching My Neighbor Totoro with her a few years ago, but she lost interest in it pretty quickly. Which I can kind of understand. I love that movie, but it's pretty slow-moving. Definitely one you have to sit and think about.

I'm surprised, really, that she loves Howl's Moving Castle as much as she does. There are a lot of kind of freaky things in there -- like the blobby men, and the way the other magicians turn into those flying toadie things, and the way Howl turns into that "monster" in Sophie's dream. But none of that seems to bother her all that much. Which is a good thing. Confusing, but good. =) So we ended up watching Howl's Moving Castle and then Kung Fu Panda. Total kid movie night, but I love them, too.

We should totally get together again and do a Studio Ghibli film fest!

You know...I first saw Totoro when I was about 11, long before I was into anime, and I honestly didn't like it at all. I thought it was too weird and I made fun of it. It wasn't until about 7 years later when I saw some stuffed totoros at an anime booth at a sci-fi convention (the only one I ever went to, heh,) and I was like 'holy crap those are cute....and kinda familiar....' So I rewatched it strictly because I found the toys appealing...and was like OMFG LUV. It was really bizzare how different my perception was the second time I watched it. So...even though it's one of the more kid-oriented Ghibli movies, I think it might actually be more appreciated by adults. (And wow, it's weird now to think how long ago it was that I both first and second watched it @__@)

Hehe, I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda too. XD

I would LOVE to do a Ghibli film fest!!! Will take you up on that!!!
