Kiddo and I got our flu vaccinations today. I have mixed feelings about the whole vaccination thing -- well, where flu is concerned, anyhow. Even so, it feels like a no-win situation where I have pretty much no choice but to get the vaccination. Luckily, they had the Flu-Mist stuff. They didn't have it when I called before. This is a good thing, as it avoids the whole screaming fit thing with my daughter and needles. (Not to mention my own healthy phobia of the sharp-pointies ... which I would be compelled to keep hidden. Not an easy task.) At the same time, it's a bad thing because it's a live virus and usually leaves me feeling not so great. Which was the case today. So, I'm achy and tired and have a low-grade fever. I'm sitting here just waiting for my daughter to get ready for bed so that I can go crawl into bed, too. I just want this day to be over already.

On the plus side ... what's better when you're not feeling your bestest than chicken soup? Homemade chicken noodle soup. I decided that's what I wanted for dinner tonight, so I whipped up a quick batch. I used to think soup was so complicated; it still amazes me that I can make this particular chicken noodle recipe in around 20-30 minutes. And it's really tasty, too! I had to forgo adding celery tonight because I didn't have any. And I had to use red onions instead of yellow. But I made do with what I already had in the pantry. Being able to do that feels kind of good, in itself.

Anyhow ... kiddo seems to be done brushing her teeth. So, time for bed. Tomorrow is another day.

...

Sometimes, that thought scares me. A lot. o_o

I don't do flu shots because my one experience with one was with a live virus and I had ALL the flu symptoms on hyper-drive in one half hour period not long after the shot.

Ugh.

Given I've had the flu twice as an adult, and the shots can't guarantee you won't get some strain, I skip them. Which is going to make me the office paraiah, since they've arranged for free shots at work.

I wouldn't do the shot, either, if I didn't have a little kid running around. I'm with her all the time and am basically the one who takes care of her. If I get sick, hubby would have to take quite a bit of time off work, which would not be good right now. >.O Plus, I volunteer at her school, which means I'm around a lot of little, germ-ridden tykes -- all wanting a hug. (eek!)

Even though the shots don't guarantee I won't catch something, I've had good luck with them so far. They make me feel icky for several days ... but, after that, the worst I've gotten is a cold. So, I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get lucky enough this year, too.

I understand why kids need flu shots, but I refuse to get them for the most part. I can't remember the last time I got a flu shot since for one they actually are made to make you sick.

Either way, I hope you feel better.

I wouldn't get one, either, if not for having my kiddo running around here. And I volunteer at her school, which means I get exposed to a lot of germy kiddos. >.O The shots do make me feel crummy for several days, but I've also managed to avoid the flu for the past few years, since starting to get the shots. Hopefully, it'll work as well this year, too.

I feel a bit better today. Still not quite 100%, but getting there. I will have to force myself to go grocery shopping tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. Whee. o_o

Could I have your receipt of this chicken soup please? @_@

I hate flu shots and only got two in my life and was sick as a rat. That mist stuff I was told is bad with the swine flu vacination so when those come out better get the needle one ^^;;; I don't know yet if I want to get that shot, but I have to see since I get really easy sick and I'm worried a little about that swine flu.

I hope you feel better soon *hugs*

Yes! I'll email the recipe to you when I get a chance. =) It's from a Williams-Sonoma cookbook that I have.

I hate the flu shots, too. But, they have kept me from getting sick over the past several years. Hopefully, that will be the case again this year. If so, it'll be worth feeling yucky now. Even though I end up feeling bad for several days after, I figure it's better than having the actual flu. At least, that's my hope. >.O

Oh man! I'm so nervous/scared about the swine flu, too. I definitely won't be doing the live vaccine for that because it's just too new. (If I do that vaccination at all. I'm nervous about doing it and nervous about not doing it, too. >.O) I waited a while before doing the live vaccine for the "regular" flu shot.

Thanks for the hugs and the feel better vibes. I feel somewhat better today. Still not 100%, but getting there. *hugs*

I haven't had a flu shot since 2002...which happened to be the year I got the worst case of the flu in my memory. I've only had the flu once again since then, and the second time I wasn't half as sick as I was the year I had a vaccination. I've been really cynical ever since then. Maybe that was just a coincidence and they would actually help me but I haven't been willing to try again.

Ah, homemade soup. One of the rare things that makes me miss the days I ate meat. ;__; I bet yours was delicious.

Ha, ha! Yeah, I totally understand that. Believe it or not, I kind of have the same view of the shots -- particularly for flu. At the same time, I have a little kid running around, and I volunteer in her school. So, I figured I had better hedge my bets. That's the conclusion I come to every year, really. But it always takes a bit of debate for me to get there.

The soup was pretty good. And it seemed easier to make this time -- probably because I've made it a couple of times before. I still have a little left over, so I'll probably eat it for lunch tomorrow. =)

Awww, thanks! *hugs*

I feel somewhat better today. Still not at 100% but getting there. I was supposed to go grocery shopping today, but I still felt yucky and achy. So, I didn't go. Tomorrow, I have no choice but to brave the store. Yikes! >.O

Hopefully, I'll be feeling more like my "normal" self by then. *crosses fingers*
