Weekend of Goodness ...
May. 10th, 2009 09:21 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Things I accomplished this weekend:
Repotted two petunias (involved much hauling of dirt and rocks and heavy pots >.O)
Repotted a HUGE azalea bush (ditto on the hauling of dirt, rocks, and heavy pots >.O >.O)
Worked on a few little art projects with the kiddo
Helped the kiddo with her homework
Cleaned the linen closet (w/ hubby's help)
Cleaned part of Master Bedroom clothes closet (again, w/ hubby's help)
Washed 4 or 5 loads of laundry (seriously, where does all the laundry come from?!?)
Cleaned the kitchen (three times)
Cleared off our kitchen table (three times -- everything in the house seems to end up there, somehow)
Started writing a Midroc side story (gotta get the creative juices flowing again!)
Went grocery shopping (involved much hauling of heavy sacks to our second floor, then putting stuff away)
Washed the kiddo's hair
Planned out menus for next week's dinners
Cleaned out the fridge
I have the feeling there was more, but this is all I can recall, off the top of my head. Although looking at the list makes it seem like a busy weekend, doesn't it? I guess it was, really.
In spite of that, it didn't feel busy. For the first time in a long time, things didn't feel rushed or hectic. I was able to enjoy spending some really great time with my hubby and kiddo. It doesn't sound like much, but I've hardly seen my husband over the past two weeks. His work schedule and extra meetings have kept him at the office or at functions until 10 or 11 (or later) pretty much every day.
He came home a bit early on Friday, so we were able to head out for a nice, leisurely dinner at Sweetwater, a steak place near us. It was great to take our time and chat, even though we mostly talked about his work. But that's OK. It was adult conversation. We got to chat with the kiddo about her week at school, too, and she shared a few things with us. That was fantastic, considering all I can usually get out of her when I ask how school was is either an "OK" or "I don't want to talk about it" (which sounds bad, but usually just means she doesn't want to bother telling me everything that happened ... silly kid). After dinner, we went for a little bit of a drive. We put the windows down to enjoy the evening. I know it's not very earth-friendly, but, being from Texas, we're big drivers. *nervous laugh* We came home early, and I potted the petunias and we cleaned out the linen closet. (With much grumbling and griping from me, because I really didn't want to do it. Now, though, I'm glad we did because it's one less thing I have to do by myself.)
Saturday was fantastic. I actually got to sleep in for as long as I wanted. Seriously -- this almost never happens. I've been exhausted lately, and I ended up going to bed late on Friday: probably around 1 or 2 AM. I got to sleep in until a bit after noon on Saturday, and it was wonderful. I actually woke up feeling rested, which hasn't happened in a while. We ate a late brunch at Austin Grill. After a stop-off at our house, we headed out for a little shopping. Hubby and the kiddo said they wanted to get a Mother's Day gift for me, and they offered to drop me off at Borders so I could browse on my own while they shopped. Needless to say, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. I spent the next two hours happily sequestered in a corner of the store, reading a book that had called to me from a shelf as I passed by. Great way to spend an afternoon, in my opinion. After hubby and the kiddo came to fetch me, we headed out to Reston for dinner at Cafesano. We got a great table overlooking the lake and the wooded area around the restaurant; it was beautiful. After dinner, we went down to the lake and fed french fries to the lone goose that was swimming around near the docks. He ate some, but I think he was pretty full. People had probably been feeding him all day! When it became obvious he wasn't going to eat much more, we gave the rest of our french fries to some other kids who had just come down to the lake with their parents. Then, we took a nice, leisurely drive around Reston. I love, love, love Reston. And, I love looking at the houses and the lakes and everything. Went home Saturday night, and I wrote a bit, then watched some Bones episodes on Tivo. All in all, it was pretty darn close to a perfect day.
Today was lovely, too. The weather was gorgeous. We had Mother's Day lunch at PF Chang's, followed by yet another drive -- this time around the amazing neighborhoods in McLean and Tyson's. Man, do I love looking at those houses. I try to imagine living in one of them, and I never can -- but that's half the fun. It sounds weird to say it, but seeing all those huge, fancy houses actually helps me appreciate our home a little more, too. And I get ideas for the yard and stuff from the different types of landscaping. After the drive, we headed home. Hubby took a nap while I repotted the HUGE azalea (a gift from my mom) and, then piddled around on the internet. I had intended to clean out the front flower beds, but I was wiped out and filthy by the time I finished the azalea. Repotting it really was a two-person job because of the plant's size. I'm hoping to keep it in a pot for a while, then put it in the ground -- once I figure out where I want it to go. After hubby got up from his nap, we grabbed dinner at Busara (Thai food, yay!), then went grocery shopping. I'm so glad to have the grocery shopping out of the way. This means I won't have to go on Tuesday. A whole day for myself! Whee!
Now, it's almost 10. The kiddo has long-since been tucked away in bed. The last load of laundry just finished in the washer. I can feel the weekend winding to a close around me. I'll be sorry to see it go, but at least I have some nice memories to carry me through next week -- small memories, but nice ones, nonetheless.
To all the moms on my F-list: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Date: 2009-05-12 03:41 pm (UTC)I'm still kind of surprised that I managed to finish even a first draft, so that feels great. Now, though, I'm kind of wondering if it was a fluke, considering how "stuck" I've been during recent weeks.
Anyhoo ...
*hugs* =)
