On the Office 'o' DOOM project.

So, after about three days of cleaning, the office is pretty much done. The bookshelves are cleared off, dusted, and rearranged. The electronic equipment is all pretty much dusted -- what I could reach, anyhow. I really need to pull things out and give everything a good dusting, but this will have to do for now. It's still light years better than what I started with. Things that were sitting around on the floor or in front of the closet are now picked up and properly stored away -- some in new places, some in old places, and some in the "to be recycled" pile. My files are cleaned out, with TONS of stuff ready for shredding. My desk is clean and dusted. Hubby's desk is clean and dusted.

Really, it looks like a totally different room. I'm still not sure it was worth the massive allergy attack -- and ensuing ickiness -- I gave myself from the all the dust, but I have to admit I feel really happy when I look around at "my" space. I may not let anyone else from my family back in here -- ever. =P The only good thing about the allergy attack is that I was able to tell myself to keep on trucking, right through the whole yucky-sicky feeling. I figured that I already felt like crap, so what the heck? In for a penny, in for a pound, so to speak.

I'm not totally done yet. I still have a TON (almost literally) of shredding to do. I made a good dent in it tonight, but I think it'll take me most of the day tomorrow to get totally done with it. My hubby has been out of town. He was supposed to come home around 9 or so tomorrow, but he got onto an earlier flight. Now, he'll probably be home around 6 or 7, so I hope I'll be able to get all of it done. I wanted it to be kind of a nice surprise for him to see.

What I don't want to see is how much trash and recycling I'm going to have to put out this week. Yikes! How could so much trash come out of one tiny room? It's a mystery. >.O

My internet has been the suckage off and on. Not sure if our router is starting to go on the fritz or what. Although, not totally unexpected, as it's about two years old. Anyhow, yesterday the internet was spotty -- up and down ... okay speed, then super sloooow. Frustrating.

I did manage to post Freefall on ff.net at some point. I think it was yesterday, but I'm doing that thing where the days all blur together in my mind. >.O Anyhow, I wasn't sure about posting it there. I already had it up over here, also on Dreamwidth ... and on my own website. I usually post on ff.net, too, but just was really unsure with this story. I'm not sure why -- maybe because it's not my usual thing, writing-wise? Still, in the interest of stepping out of that mold, I did it. It's been OK so far. I don't tend to get a whole lot of reviews, in general, and I don't think this story will be any exception to that. Which actually is a good thing. I've gotten one lukewarm comment from one of my regular readers as well as one review that was a bit disturbing. Not that it was mean, exactly. Just that I haven't ever gotten a review like that, so it felt ... weird. Not sure how else to explain it.

My inner Domestic Diva has been hard at work this week. On Monday, I made tacos, but I wanted to make the meat from scratch, instead of using a seasoning mix that has a TON of extra sodium in it. I think it turned out OK, overall, although not quite as spicy/flavorful as I would have liked. I may adjust the seasoning combination the next time I use it. I had some of the meat left over, so I used it last night to whip up a big batch of fried rice, also adding some corn and sugar peas and onions -- then pan fried it up using some sesame oil. It was pretty good, although tonight I'll add a little Maggi when I warm it up, so it'll have a little more flavor.

Fae is sitting here on the sofa next to me. It's rather cave-like and chilly on the first floor of our house, so I have the heater going. She is quite the heater hound, so she is curled up on that corner of the sofa, soaking up all the heat. Silly dog.

I spent some time yesterday painting. I've been working on a fancel of Aya that I had to put aside while my parents were visiting. I finally pulled it back out yesterday, and I got quite a bit done. I'm pretty happy with the way the eyes have turned out so far, but unhappy with part of the sword. There was a greenish-gray color that was supposed to be more gray than green ... but it ended up more green than gray, once it dried. Poo. Maybe I'll do a correction layer for it after everything else is done.

I guess that's it for now. I have to head off to volunteer for the afternoon at my daughter's school. Woo hoo. >.O

My (inner) Domestic Diva is quite pleased with herself. I made lunch for myself (from scratch) two days in a row now. *shock* Nothing super challenging: just a really nice scramble of eggs, some turkey, green onions, fresh spinach, and a little cheese. Simple, but really very good. Plus, I need to use the eggs. Somehow, I ended up with almost 3 dozen eggs in my fridge. I would have to live about a billion years to use that many eggs, so ... yeah, it's a challenge. I can't really figure out how this happened, although I suspect it has a lot to do with my parents' recent visit. My mom did some baking, so she probably got eggs for that -- not realizing we already had eggs. Then, the last time I went to the store, I bought eggs, too. Again, not realizing I had some in the fridge already. Anyhow, I'm on a mission to use some of these eggs. (Not an easy mission, as eggs are not my favorite food.) Plus, as soon as I mentioned it over the phone last night, my mom volunteered that it wasn't her fault. Which makes me suspect, even more, that she was responsible for at least one dozen.

Maybe I'll bake cookies or something. That would use up some of them, although baked goods usually go bad around here. We just don't eat them fast enough.

Tonight, I made chicken noodle soup for dinner. Hubby won't be home till around 7:30 or so, but I wanted to start ahead of time to make sure I got everything done. It doesn't take a super long time, but I have to cook when I'm in the mood to do it. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but it's the way I roll. Really, I'm doing well to be cooking at all. I've been making a concerted effort in the cooking department.

The rest of my Domestic Diva status is seriously in doubt at the moment. My house needs a good cleaning. Actually, it doesn't need cleaning so much as just straightening up. It's not really dirty, although I do need to vacuum. But, everyone in my family (including me, sadly) has a tendency toward cluttering. That kind of stuff piles up pretty quickly.

Sadly, I have not had the urge or mood or whatever to do much of anything this week. Part of it was just feeling icky and under the weather. But, part of it is a general feeling of malaise. I would almost call it laziness, but I think it's more than that. I can't summon up the energy or desire to do much of anything. I hope this passes soon. Bleh. I do have a lot of stuff to take to the donation place this weekend, though. We were supposed to take it last weekend, but it didn't work out. This weekend, it has to go. I'm tired of the bags sitting in my foyer.

Kiddo, hubby, and I all have allergies. But, my poor kiddo has them really badly right now. There's a lot of pollen in the air. Plus, it keeps raining, so that adds more gunk, once things dry out. And it has been windy. Woo Hoo -- Happy Spring. >.O

The damn mowers are back again today. I hate the mowers. Grrrrrr. At least they didn't block off our driveway this time, but I still hate them. I can hear my mother's voice in the back of my head right now, telling me that I don't really hate them. (She always did this to me as a kid, and, actually, she still does it to me now that I'm an adult -- like I don't know how I feel. Argle.) But, really ... yeah, I think I do.

On my way home from picking the kiddo up at school, I pass by a very busy little strip shopping center. It has a 7-11 and a cleaners, so there are always cars in and out of there. The street that I drive on has two driveways where cars can exit from the parking lot, both of them next to the 7-11. I always try to leave these driveways clear when I'm sitting there waiting for the light. Most other people do the same thing. Today, I pulled up close to the second driveway, but left some room in case anyone wanted to exit the parking lot -- or wanted to turn into the parking lot from the other direction. Then, out of nowhere, this man pulls his car into the space I had left! Like he had come from the back of the line of traffic to shove himself into that space, not only cutting me off but blocking off the driveway. How utterly and completely RUDE. I hope that guy had a flat tire later on. Stupid jerk. >:(

I tried out a new recipe tonight: Peach-glazed Chicken. I found it in a magazine, and it sounded pretty good. And looked easy enough, even for me. I made it with a Caesar salad and some rice. And you know what? It was a pretty darn good meal.

I'm always a little astounded when I can manage to pull something together that seems like an actual "meal" sort of thing. Because I'm not really domestic. And I'm not all that into the whole cooking thing. I guess I don't hate it, but I don't particularly enjoy it, either. I pretty much don't get anything out of it, either way; it's just something I do because I "have" to do it. If that makes sense.

Anyhow, my inner domestic DIVA was quite proud of me tonight. You go, girl. ^.~
