Fae freaked out during her annual vet visit. Looks like she needs anti-anxiety meds. Discovered that you can fill dog prescriptions at the regular drugstore. (You know, the ones humans use.) It was a weird experience. Shiner is about 3 months old now ... and weighs 17 pounds. He's growing like a weed. My cat is pissed off -- literally -- about the puppy coming upstairs into the office. She waited till we were all gone, and then peed all over his toys. And yes, I am rather annoyed at the cat over this. And no, she doesn't give a fuck about that.

One day, there will, once again, be peace in my household. But today is not that day.

Depending on the med, it's probably a human one at a very low strength The most common anti-anxiety meds I know for animals are all human meds (amitriptyline, fluoxetene, etc.)

Yes! It is a human one. I can't remember the name of it, although it's not Prozac. Because the vet said that, if this one didn't work, we would adjust the dosage first ... then, if that didn't help, we would try switching to Prozac. He told me it was a human drug, but that there's a canine form of it that tastes better -- hence easier to get dogs to take it. (Although, that likely wouldn't be a problem with Fae. She pretty much eats anything that doesn't eat her first. =P)

I won't be able to start her on it until tomorrow, as they were out of it when I went to the drug store. They had to order it. I was supposed to pick it up today, but got home too late from our Halloween outing. >.O I hope it helps her, although I'm a bit anxious about trying it. Hoping for the best, though.

Ah ha! Now I know how to deal with those who piss me off! When they're not looking, piss on them! :D

Yeah, there are a lot of human drugs scaled down for animals. How else would you explain banana flavored Amoxicillin? Unless a lot of people are keeping moneys as pets. ~_~

And I haven't had a chance to say it before, but congrats on the puppy! We're kind of the same way here. We can have other cats but at least one has to be a Siamese. Purely out of love for the breed and not any expectation that one will be like any of the others. ^_^

Ha! Well, the whole "pee on them" strategy didn't work well for poor Fae. She still had to have her temperature taken (thermometer up the butt -- ick o.o) and got her shots. Although ... truthfully, there are several people in this world who deserve to be pissed upon -- IMO. =P

It is a human drug, just in a canine flavor and smaller dosage. LOL re: monkeys as pets. Sometimes, I wish human drugs tasted better ... but then I guess even more people would get addicted to them.

Thanks for the congrats on the puppy. He really is my Sweet Babu ... and having him in the house has really pointed out to me all the stuff I was really missing. And it's mostly breed characteristic stuff, as Springers are very people oriented. Fae loves us, but she is not a "people dog". I think she's become more attached to us since the puppy has come into the house, believe it or not. Which is a good thing.
