Let There Be Light ...

Hubby, Kiddo, and I went to a new Vietnamese restaurant, Minh's, last night for dinner. (New to us, not "new" new.) This place had these phenomenal lights that I LOVED. I couldn't get a super close look because, of course, they were hanging from the ceiling, but they appear to be silk with a beautiful floral-type pattern to them. Drum-shaped, and with tiers, capped off with very pretty, delicate beading.

So, it got me to thinking about how I've wanted to change the lighting in my entryway ever since we moved into the house. I've never done it. Actually, I haven't done much of anything to this house, which is weird for me. For years and years, I couldn't wait to have my own house so that I could do whatever I wanted to it. I spent countless hours decorating and changing around our rental spaces over the years, so it seems like letting myself go crazy with ideas and such would be a given with my own house. And somehow, it just never worked out that way. I'm not sure if it was because of having my daughter and, then, being too busy with her to do anything. Or if it's just a case of "the blahs" taking over my life for a number of years -- which makes sense, now that I've found out it's not just a passing thing, but that I have depression ... and have likely struggled with this for most of my life without knowing. Whatever the reason for never doing the "decor-thing" at my own house, I decided it was time to make some changes. So I set off in search of something similar to the lights at Minh's for my own entryway.
I found these on a website specializing in Asian lighting. (www.asianimportstore.com) They are very, very similar. I love the color, and I think the sari fabric would give a really pretty glow from the lights. And the beading is really pretty. On the negative side, I don't like being able to see the wire framework through the fabric. And they are not big enough. (Too bad, too, because the price is extremely good for these. LOL)

And, in my interweb wanderings, I found a few things I absolutely ADORE but could never afford. Ain't that always the case? Still ... I love looking at them.
From www.allmodern.com: A gorgeous pendant that has multiple small, glass lamps hanging from it. I love the look of it -- the different colors of glass, which I'm sure makes a gorgeously soft glow, the metal work on the bands and chains. Just ... everything. (Except the price. This one was about $18,000 -- on sale! Yikes! o.o)

And two from www.archiexpo.com:
This one is patterned (painted??) silk and brass. And super, super gorgeous. I love the delicate look to it as well as the patterns on the material. And the brass ball and tassel at the bottom. There is something so graceful about it. I can't remember the exact price, but I'm thinking it was somewhere around 8-10K. Waaaay out of my price range! Still ... looking is free. Heh.

This one, actually ... I think was my very favorite. It's such a gorgeous combination of metal and, I believe, silk. I like how it is graceful and strong at the same time. And I love, love, love the delicate patterns on the metal banding around the top. Much as I love the tiered look of the above light (which is very similar), I like how this one hangs closer to the ceiling. And I really love how the exposed chain complements the light, overall. Just ... everything about this is LOVE. ♥ It's on the "cheap" side, too: about $7,000 -- Ha! Yeah, well, still out of my price range. But ... man. Love is hard. =P

Aaaand, not a light, but I'm totally in love with this little nightstand, which appeared in a recent Anthropologie advertisement. I searched the site for it, but couldn't find it for sale, Perhaps it was just something they used in their ad ... ?? Which makes me kind of sad. I'm not sure it would go with my behemoth of a bed frame, anyhow ... but love is love, you know?

In the meantime, my lighting search continues! Ooooh! And curtains. Perhaps I should look for curtains, too. Hee!
