Friday is the day I clean HPH's cage. So, I get his little carrier ready with fluffy bedding and some snackies. I (with kiddo's help) coax him out of his little burrow/hut so that he can crawl into my hand for the ride to his carrier. (I swear, it's so freaking cute how he does that.) And then, the fun begins. Cage and I head down to the first-floor bathroom, where I empty out bedding ... toss old food ... empty the water bottle ... and take all the toobs apart. Of course, I always manage to make a HUGE mess on the floor, in the process. After I've washed everything and am cleaning up the hamster "prezzies" off the bathroom floor (soon to be followed by scrubbing said bathroom, once the cage is back together), it occurs to me:

Wow. My life is so freaking glamorous. *snort* >.O

Aaaand ... I shall further alienate and annoy folks with additional pictures. Go me! =D

I decided to be somewhat "timely" and share a few Christmas Eve and snow pics. (Behind the cut, of course.)

Christmas Eve

For Christmas Eve, we headed into The District for a special dinner at a favorite restaurant. Kind of on a lark, I decided to take my camera, and I'm glad I did. I'm not the best at shooting night scenes, but I ended up with a few shots I liked.

Capitol and Christmas Tree:

DC 6: December 2010

Outside the National Arboretum:

DC 5: December 2010

Capitol from a distance:

DC 4: December 2010

China Town:

DC 3: December 2010

Random Street Scene (I don't remember where this was >.O):

DC 2: December 2010

Another one where the location escapes me:

DC 1: December 2010

And Snow!!

These are from the recent snow we had a couple of days ago. See how timely I can be? *nervous laugh* These are all from my neighborhood and/or in front of my house.

Love your snow pics! Would love them more if there weren't still so much snow around ... and ninja blocks of black ice to fell unsuspecting pedestrians like me....

Thanks! Yeah, that black ice is treacherous. And now they are saying another storm this coming Tues./Wed ... but ice instead of snow. Argh. >.O I hope your power stayed on -- or, if it didn't, that it's back on now. (Which I'm guessing it must be, since you posted on LJ, but still ... LOLz)

Love your icon! Yay, Italy!! (It is Italy from Hetalia, right? If not, it really looks like him. =D)

Ayep. It's Italy from the Chibitalia segments.

(and I didn't lose power, thankfully; tree limbs landed all over the place, but not on the transformer, thankfully)

Yay! I'm glad you didn't lose your power. Lucky! I felt really lucky, too, that ours didn't go out. Now, here's hoping we can all survive the next storm. *sigh*

Pretty! You are such a good photographer. I <3 the last one. Do you have a real camera? I think I've asked that before...

That last one is super pretty!

Awww, thanks so much! *blush* I liked the last one a lot, too. The red berries against the dark green and white were really striking to me. =D

Now, I shoot with a Canon 50D, and I took these with the lens I use the most often. It is (I think ... although I'm terrible at remembering the measurements) a 28-135mm lens with a macro feature, which makes it a nice, all-purpose lens. I get decent telephoto function with it, as well as the ability to get closer, macro-type shots. (Not "true" macro, but probably the closest I can get without switching lenses. And I'm super lazy about carrying multiple lenses with me. >.O)

When I decided to switch everything over from film to digital, I started out with a more basic Canon Rebel. I can't remember the model number at the moment, but it's several years old. I liked it a lot -- enough to happily upgrade to the 50D. And I love my 50D. It has a nice, solid feel in my hand, which was one of the things that drew me to it right away.

Before, when I shot with film, I started out (again) with the Canon Rebel. And then, later, upgraded to the Canon Elan -- which I loved, loved, loved. Switching over to digital was a hard decision because I loved my Elan so much. But it just got too expensive and hard to get film developed -- hence the switch. If I still had room in my house for a darkroom, I would probably shoot film sometimes -- just for fun. Film definitely gives you a much different look and feel to the photos than digital.

Anyhow ... wow. Sorry for the super-long comment. *nervous laugh*

Eep, left this hanging! THANK YOU!

I've been interested in "real" photography but it super intimidates me! I really appreciate that you went into detail. I use throw-aways and digital cameras, without the macro etc., so I'm definitely interested in learning more. I think you take great pics!

Awww, you didn't leave anything hanging! *GLOMS* It can be hard to keep up with everything. I know I spend a good bit of the day flailing around just trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing and where. LOLz

I felt the same way before finally deciding to jump into "real" photography. Super, super intimidated. I was always interested in it. Always wanted to take the kinds of beautiful pictures I would see in magazines, etc. Even as a little kid. But my parents were not only unsupportive but rather mocking about it ... which didn't do a lot for my courage or self-esteem. *nervous laugh* I finally decided to take the plunge and get a nice SLR when I was totally finished with school and working. I hated my career, and was no longer able to write. My previous job sucked all my creativity away, so I figured it was a good time to try out photography. At least I would be doing something creative, you know?

I still often feel intimidated, though. I don't know a lot about the actual mechanics of taking a good picture. I know what I like and I know when I see what I like ... but I often don't know how I got there, if that makes sense. I feel very in awe and terrified of people who can talk about aperture sizes and f-stops and such ... because I totally can't. (eep.)

I think you take great pics!

Awww! Thanks! *blush* You're super sweet to me -- too much so. *snuggles & GLOMS*

Thanks! =D

I need to take pictures of HPH. I've been trying to figure out how to do it without freaking him out with the flash -- LOL.
