The Cel Storage Box ...

I think I mentioned this little project in a couple of earlier LJ posts. I've wanted to do this for a long time -- have a "proper" place to store my cels. When my parents visited this last time, my dad finally had the time to build it for me. I've had it in place for a couple of weeks now, and I just love it! I still need to take the time to get organized -- add some poles to the racks and put away a huge backlog of cels. But, I'm really, really thrilled I finally have a place to store my pretties.
So, some photos:
This is the outside of the box. I specifically had my dad build it to the dimensions of the spot where I had been storing my cel racks, mainly because the columns create a natural sort of alcove there, which is pretty perfect for holding the box, too. I had him build it pretty high so that I can use the lid as a work surface when I take cel books out and move things around, put things away, or decide to rescan stuff. As you can see, the entire front of the box will come off. I just have to remove a few screws. This way, I have the option of rolling a new rack right in through the front, if I want.

A shot of the lid. I had him put the kind of hinges that lock in place so that I could open the lid and not worry about it banging back down and whacking me in the head. He used really beautiful, smooth plywood on it -- very, very nice grade of wood -- so it is thick and heavy. I asked him to paint the inside black to cut down on the amount of light that could get into the box.

A shot of one of my racks, with the cel books on it, inside the box. I think the books look pretty happy. Hee! =D
