texchan: aya with his bazooka, from WK OP #2 (Touch Me Touga)
I managed another small gallery update last night. Two new cels, kicking off a new series for me: Darkstalkers. Or, I guess, it would be more accurate to say the series is called Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge. At least, according to Wikipedia. So, take that for what it's worth, I guess ... which might not be much.

I don't know much about the show. It's a game-based show, and the artwork that I love appears to be from an OVA. I know there was a US series also based on the game, but the character designs, from what I've seen, are very different. I have yet to watch it, but I did manage (after much internet searching) to locate a copy of the OVA on DVD. So, I'm hoping to watch it soon.

It's not normal for me to buy art from a show I haven't seen. But, I could not continue to resist the pull of this show. I have been visiting artwork from it in galleries for almost three years now, and visiting dealer listings for it for almost two years. I'm kind of surprised I held out this long, honestly. Even though I haven't seen the show, I love the artwork. I think it is strong and bold, and I really love the character designs from the OVA. I haven't seen much artwork labelled as coming from the game, so I don't know what it looks like -- if it is any different, or what. Needless to say, it'll take a bit more research on my part to get the specifics of this show nailed down. But, since I ran across some cels I loved ... and at a good price (always a plus), I took the plunge and added them to my collection. I hope I'll be able to find a few more, although that might take a while.

So, linky-loos, if anyone is interested:

I also realized, yesterday, that I have been collecting cels for three years now. I received my very first cel as a gift from my hubby back in October 2003. But, I made my first cel purchase in March of 2004, so I consider that my "anniversary" for entering into this nutty obsession ... er, addiction ... er pasttime. My RS gallery turns three at the beginning of April, so I will probably be posting about this again around that time.

Anyhow, it's hard to believe it's been three years. There have definitely been some ups and downs. More "ups", luckily. I've met my share of "not nice" people in the hobby, but I've been lucky to meet many more who are wonderful and kind. And, I've been fortunate enough to make some really terrific friends, too. Hopefully, I'll have a few more years of collecting fun before retiring from the game. ^.^
