Done is Done!!
For today, anyhow. >.O
Sooooo ready for this day to be over. It started out OK, but just went downhill in the afternoon. I guess not downhill as in being "bad", really. Just tiring.
So, to start things off with a "bang" (literally), our lawn people came today. We live in a townhouse, which is in a small complex/neighborhood of other townhouses. There are 9 of us, but we still pay dues to cover having a lawn service come in periodically to do the common areas. And, they are supposed to do the individual lawns, too. Our yard is the only one with a fence. It had a fence when we bought it, which was perfect, as we had a dog at the time. (And, now, of course, we have a dog again.) Bad thing is that when the lawn service comes in to cut our lawn, which is about the size of a postage stamp -- I kid you not -- they bring in their HUGE riding lawnmower equipment. It's so freaking big it can't even turn around in our yard without running over our patio. And it doesn't fit through our gate. My dad has already repaired the gate three times. I keep telling them not to come in to cut the grass, but they totally ignore me. Today was no exception. They came in to cut the grass and, thanks to all the rain we've had lately, our yard was a soggy mess. They left huge, muddy ruts behind when they finished. Totally gouged out deep crevices in our lawn, which was just starting to recover from one of Fae's more energetic puppy-inspired digging sprees. And, by the gate, they left even deeper ruts, so I know they got stuck there. I'm way more mad about this than I ever expected I would be ... and probably than I should be.
As for the "bang" part of the afternoon: the lawn people, of course, parked one of their huge trucks in the middle of the cul-de-sac in our neighborhood. No biggie, except it totally blocks off our driveway. I hate it when workmen (or our neighbors' guests) park there because it makes getting in and out of the driveway really difficult. Normally, I can manage it, though, if they park to one side. This truck, though, was parked smack in the middle. I tried to get out and ended up backing into it. Luckily, no damage to my car. But I was late going to pick my daughter up from school and had to stop long enough to find one of the workers and get them to move the truck. So. Freaking. Irritating.
Got the kiddo home from school ... she had lots of "projects" planned that she wanted to work on. So, we started off by finishing her little frog habitat from school. They made clay frogs and used shoeboxes to make pond-type "habitats" for them as a class project, but the teacher didn't let anyone decorate the box lids because of time constraints in class. My kiddo wanted to decorate her lid. So, I ended up cutting water for her ... then fish ... then stripes to glue on the fish ... then lily pads ... then lilies to go with the lily pads ... then rocks. It was tedious and time-consuming, although she did most of the gluing. (Luckily, or I would not have survived! O_O) After that, we went through all her school papers from the week and I helped her with her homework. Then, we had a loooooong discussion about how awful it was that the lawn guys had ruined our yard.
Then, hubby came home. We went out to dinner, which was fine. At least we got to talk -- something in short supply lately because of his crazy work schedule. It was nice having adult conversation, even if it was pretty much all about his work.
I wanted to go for a drive because it was a nice evening, but the drive ended up being cut short. It was a little disappointing, but couldn't be helped. We got back home probably around 7:30 or 8 PM, and it was still light out side. Even better, it wasn't raining! So, I decided I would go ahead and repot my daughter's petunias. (She found these petunias at Home Depot and just loved them. My mom bought them for her. Of course, they were already root-bound when we brought them home.) So, cue another half hour or 45 minutes of lugging 40 lb sacks of dirt (which were even heavier b/c of the recent rain) ... punching holes in the pots ... finding rocks for the drainage on the bottom (more heavy lifting) ... placing and covering the plants with dirt (yet more heavy lifting) ... then sweeping the excess potting soil off the porch. By the time we were done, I was hot. I was muddy and dirty. I was tired. I was ready to sit down and take it easy.
Not to be.
Came inside to do a bit of laundry. (Because, for some reason, there is always laundry. I can't figure it out.) I made the mistake of asking hubby to put away some sheets, and he decided we needed to clean out the linen closet right then. Ugh. I shouldn't complain much because at least he was helping me. That's more than I usually get. And, the closet needed cleaning. But I was hot. And tired. I had hauled dirt and potted plants and listened to about five thousand hours of non-stop kid-chatter. And it was 9 PM. I wanted to be done. I wanted a shower. I did not want to clean the linen closet.
But clean it, we did. I am almost ashamed to admit I did not perform the task with any sort of grace or good-will. I was pretty bitchy and grumpy about it. Then, of course, I had to help lug everything downstairs. I guess that means most of my Saturday will be used up with going to the donation place to drop off this stuff. Bleh. Don't get me wrong. Cleaning out stuff is good. Having a little extra space is good (especially in our house). Having some help with it is good. Doing it at 9 PM after an already long day is ... well, not good.
It is now after 11. My daughter is finally in bed. And, as soon as I finish this, I'm finally going to get my hot shower, followed by a nice wallow in my comfy bed and a half hour or so engrossed in the Dresden Files novel I'm currently reading. Because it's time for everything to be done, and because, no matter how bad my life seems, it's probably a cake walk compared to whatever Harry Dresden happens to be going through. Poor guy.

I hope the project turns out good!

It did feel good to get a lot done. At the same time, I really couldn't let go of my whole deal of "I just wanna sit down!!!!" at the end of the day. (LoLz)
Luckily, today has been a calmer day.

You've gotten a Dreamwidth account? Do you like it? I think you're the first person on my flist to get one (that I know of)!

Yes, I decided to try out Dreamwidth. So far, I like it. It's super easy to cross-post from there to LJ. I tried that last night with this post, and it was a breeze. It even adjusted the cut codes so that they would read correctly for LJ. I was hella impressed with it.
I haven't done a whole lot over on DW yet, though. I just haven't had the time to sit down and play with it -- for example, I still need to upload user pics. >.O And I still don't know exactly what I'm going to do with the DW journal. I didn't really need two journals, but I loved the idea of a fresh, new start on a fresh, new site. Hence my sudden leap. (poor impulse control ... it's a curse. -.-)
