More Texas Pics!!
As promised, here I am in another post bugging you guys with the rest of my TX pics. These are all from my uncle's ranch in Sisterdale. It is one of the oldest continuously-operating ranches in Texas. His family has been ranching this land since sometime in the 1800s, which is pretty cool. I love getting to go out with him and my cousins, as they know all the old stories that go with the land, and I love being able to get a feeling for that history. =D
Again, putting this behind a cut because of length.
This is my cousin's dog, Dulce. And she is just as sweet as her name implies. ^.~

COWS!!! I love cows. I really don't know why, but I just do. Maybe something about their big, soft eyes. The long tongues kind of freak me out ... but the pretty eyes kind of make up for it. (lolz) We went out to feed with my uncle and cousin, and we were even able to feed a few of the cows by hand -- which doesn't happen all that often.

LANDSCAPES:
In this first one, there is a little, kind of pointy-looking hill in the distance on the right (as you're looking at it) side of the picture. That hill is near where I grew up, a distance of about 20 miles or so.

Love how you can see the road snaking through here. This is pasture land that my uncle leases. Needless to say, not many people actually get to go back here, so it was a treat getting to take some pictures there.

HIDDEN SPRING:
So my uncle told me about this hand-made cattle tank that had been built in the 1920s. It's way back in this pasture land, where pretty much no one sees it. It's never been photographed as far as he knows, but he told me I was welcome to head back there and take pictures of it. It was going to be a hike, though. I was up for it, so I borrowed some hiking boots from my cousin and we headed out. We got close to the jumping off place for our hike to the tank, and my cousin and I headed out. We hiked. And hiked. And hiked. Probably at least a mile. Maybe even more. Up hill ... down hill ... sliding through the dry grass and grabbing onto mesquite and little cedar trees to keep from falling. I even told her to be sure and save my camera if I ended up going ass over teakettle! Finally, we found a "wild pig super highway" -- a little dirt rut full of pig tracks. Knowing they usually head for water, we followed the tracks, thinking they would lead us to the tank. Sadly, we never found the cattle tank. But we did find this beautiful, hidden spring bubbling up from the ground. (And luckily, we didn't see any actual wild pigs, as they are incredibly aggressive and dangerous!)

MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE RANCH:
These are shots from closer in to the "big house", where my aunt and uncle live. The tractors and old trucks are part of a collection of antique tractors and autos that are on the place. My uncle told me how old they were, but I don't remember. *shame*

Although it's pretty much just a storage-type area now, this used to be a chicken coop. It was built by my uncle's grandfather.

WATERFALL:
This is where we would go swimming when I was a kid. This is a river/stream (depending on how much rainfall the area has gotten) on my uncle's land. The water flows down over some rocks and gathers in a natural pool. Luckily, they had had a decent amount of rain, so I was able to get some shots where the waterfall and pool had water in them.

BLUE MOON:
So, the blue moon happened in late December/early January. The "blue moon" is the extra full moon that happens in years when there are thirteen full moons instead of only twelve. As we were leaving the waterfall, we saw the moon rising up over the fields -- full and gorgeous.

Aaaand, I guess that's about it for my Texas Pics. (Told 'ya it would be another LONG post! XD)

The skies were really pretty when we were there, and that windmill picture has a real "Texas" sort of feel to me. It's one of my favorites, too.
