Home Improvements ... A Terrible Death to Die
Well, we managed to get the office cleared of ... stuff. For a small room, we have a lot of crap in there. Plus, it's probably the most-used room in our house, since I write there and do almost all my web stuff in there, too. I have laptops; I'm typing on one right now. But I love my desktop, even though it's a PC. I have a nice setup, with two decent-sized flat screen monitors. And I have a pretty comfy desk chair. Plus, and this sounds rather ridiculous, but I love my keyboard. It's got just the right amount of "springy-clicky" to it and makes just the right sound as I type. I like a keyboard that makes a nice, subtle clickety-clack sound. Just enough to make me feel industrious and like I'm getting things done by pecking away at it. But not loud enough to irritate me. You wouldn't think so, but finding the right combo can be difficult.
Yeah, well ... I'm a bit strange. We all knew this already.
At any rate, as the room we use and abuse most often ... and a small room that contains a wall and a half of bookshelves, two large desks, and enough computer/electronic equipment to power a small country, it was a bitch and a half to clear out. The other rooms took about half a day to clear. The office took two. I am really dreading putting it all back together again, too.
Small bit of excitment during the clearing phase of our flooring project, though. Hubby was lifting our laser printer down off its shelf, when the printer tilted over backward. It's a bit back-heavy, and he couldn't get a good grip on it. It came slamming down onto his desk, stopping right against the glass of the nearest window. Talk about scary! We came so close to breaking that darn window and watching the printer go sailing down to the concrete three stories below. It would've made one helluva mess. And, yes, "helluva mess" is a technical term. Luckily, the window remained intact. We're not sure about the printer. We won't know if it's damaged until we can hook it up once more. I'm hoping for the best, though.
The floor in the hallway is done, which leaves the office as the only room to go. I think we might get the new floor in there today. Then, my dad has to do all the molding for the office and hallway. Once that is done, we have to put everything back where it belongs. Big UGH!
I'm ready for this project to be over and done with, already. The nonstop banging and pounding and sawing and everything is frazzling my nerves. I have a constant headache from all the dust we've stirred up, combined with the incessant noise. Plus, I miss my computer already. I'm having withdrawals, which is so very pathetic. At the same time, I know this is the only way to do this, and I keep telling myself that it'll be worth it, in the end. I truly believe that, as I love the way the floor looks so far. I think it will be really pretty, and it'll definitely help with my allergies, once we have everything put away. I just hope I can survive -- and hang on to my sanity -- long enough for that to happen. Heh.

House renonations *sighs* I´m living one at the moment.
My father decided to complete the terrace and put floor to half of the back yard, plus we have a carpenter fixing the wood stairs and re varnishing the banister (ohh and the stairs had to be revanished too).
Mother and I have been going through loud banging and strong smell of varnish for 3 weeks.
Just hang in there, soon it´ll be over and everything will go back to normal. Anyway... I love wood floor, I´m not that fond of rugs or carpets.
That´s not all... since I´m planning to move overseas I had to pack 32 years worth of stuff. It resulted on 16 boxes (and I threw away a lot of stuff), that´s finished (thank god)...now the deal is to investigate how on earth I´ll get my stuff from Monterrey, Mexico to a small town in the north part of Germany that´s just an hour away from Hamburg.

Ouch. Sounds like a lot of painful renovations going on at your house, too. I hate the way varnish and paint smell, so I'm really glad I don't have to live through that. With the new flooring we are putting in, it's just a lot of noise and dust. Irritating, but livable. :)
I really like wood floors, too. Especially because I have really awful allergies. It is a lot easier to get the dust and stuff off of the wood floor than with carpet. Plus, our carpet was really old and just worn-out looking. It was the original carpet to our house, and the previous owners didn't do much to keep it up. It was already wrecked when we moved in, but we couldn't afford to replace it until now.
Wow! That sounds like a HUGE move you're making. I hope it goes well, and that you are able to get your stuff to your new location easily and in good condition.
