The Fangirl SQWEE!! that Rocked the World ...
Plus, a self-serving "fic-whoring" entry, as well.
Yeah, yeah ... this post is all about ME!! Er, well, I guess every post in here is that way. This is my journal, after all. *thinks about slinking off to find a hiding place*
So, first things first -- let's get the fic-whoring out of the way. I haven't exactly been "dead", writing-wise. Just severely challenged. You know, that kind of special "challenge" where everything's quiet in your brain because all the muses have run off to hide? Or, considering who my muses tend to be ... perhaps they stepped out for a drink, or something. But, I did manage to finish a little gift fic I wrote for Bladedfan. I did the final edits last night and posted it over on FF.net. When I get the time to build the pages, I'll post it on my main site, too, although I'm not sure anyone goes there for anything other than the cel gallery. Heck, I'm not sure anyone goes there at all -- except for me and a few people who told me they bookmarked it. I never get email from that darn thing, and there's no hit counter (mainly because I think it would be depressing to see how many times a day I go there. >.O).
Anyhow ... sidetracked, much? o.o
Here's the ff.net link, on the off chance anyone is interested: Night
And, now, for the "fun" part of this self-serving journal post! That whole fangirl scream thing. Yeah, I know. You were just hanging around, waiting for that, weren't you? =P
I had a total and complete fangirl SQWEE melt-down last night, because I managed to snag a Saiyuki Gunlock genga set from my wishlist!! I still remember how darn shocked I was when I saw this scene pop up on ebay. I had been on the look-out for it, but never, never expected to see it there. It's like finding a 5-carat diamond ring at a flea market. Yeah, that kind of "pleasant buzz" type of shocked. Immediately, my shiney-eyed production art beast kicked in with the whole ME WANT thing. Yep. So ... not pretty. So true, but, still, not pretty. Needless to say, I tossed in a fairly low bid right away, just to make sure I didn't forget about the auction altogether. I know, for a wishlist item, you would think that would be impossible ... but stranger things have happened. Besides, it is hard to keep track of auctions when life gets busy. So, tossed up my "opening gambit" bid, and, then, feverishly stalked the auction.
There hasn't been much in the way of competition for Saiyuki production art on ebay recently, so, maybe I'm the only bozo still collecting from this show. *shrug* But, I was worried about this particular one. For one thing, it's a wishlist, and you can't help but be extra-paranoid over something that made it to "wishlist" status. Losing hurts, no matter what, but losing a wishlist item brings a special sort of pain all its own. If any of my fellow collectors happen to read this, I'm sure they will nod in agreement and know exactly what I'm talking about; the other two or three people who read this journal are probably shaking their heads and wondering what the heck is wrong with me right about now. (Er, they probably wonder that all the time, actually. *nervous laugh*) And, then, there is the actual scene depicted in the sketch. It's Gojyo (popular character) ... and he's nekkid (not that you can see that much (which is too bad, really *snicker*) ... and it's from a very sweet, sexy scene in the anime. And, no matter how I love the Saiyuki universe, it's not a place where "sweet" happens all that often. So, I feared these factors would attract more bidders and, thus, leave me out of luck. Yesterday, another bidder showed up and placed several bids on it, so I decided to bid again and put in my "absolute, final" max bid -- just in case I wasn't able to babysit the auction. (Which I wasn't, so it was a good thing to do.) The other bidder had bid 4 times, so I wasn't sure if they would come back again or not ... and I figured I had to plan for the possibility that another collector would try for it.
But ... the happy ending is that I got it! And, for way, way under my maximum bid. I'm so, so, so happy!! I was on Cloud 9 all night last night. Ah ... production art high ... what a wonderful feeling.
Here's a sneak preview of the sketch image. (the seller's auction pic)

And, here's the screencap of the scene (for some perspective).

I can't wait to see it in person!!
*still glowing from graphite-gasm*
Since this auction ended so low, I decided to try for a cute Riho (from Nightwalker) cel I had been eyeing on this seller's site. And, my luck held, because I was able to get it, too -- for close to the opening bid. I was forced to snipe the auction, though, and I feel bad about that. My hubby came in near the end of the auction and asked to use my computer "for ten minutes". The auction had about 30 minutes left, so I figured -- no problem. Wrong! He putzed around on here for almost 30 minutes! When he got off and I raced back to the auction, it only had 4 minutes left ... so I tossed in my bid then. Well, it's not really sniping, as 4 minutes gives others plenty of time to bid again, but, still, I feel a bit guilty over it. Not that I don't snipe on Ebay. I do ... I just feel bad about it. *shame*
