Ever since I cut fattier and sweeter foods out of my diet they make me sick. Maybe also because you hadn't had it in a while, it affected you badly.

I hope your Mom's surgery goes smoothly, as I'm sure it will. As for keeping things from you... Maybe they don't tell you these things thinking they're causing you less worry? So you don't worry weeks in advance. Or something. I don't know how to put it into words... Anyway, I'm no help. :)
