Just Breathe ...

Ray: "Is she dead?"
Fraser: "No. Just disappointed."

OK, so the quote doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense out of context, but it made me giggle so hard when I saw that particular Due South episode. And it makes me giggle each time I think of the line. I could use some giggle-fodder today ... so there you have it. One very out-of-context quote from one very odd (yet endearing) TV show.

I met with our new pet sitter today. Our previous sitter is retiring, so we are switching to someone new. Same service, just a new person. She is very nice, and I had had a long conversation with her on the phone already about the pets ... including that we are now minus one loveable, slobbery, and much-loved dog. Considering that I had sobbed all the way through our talk on the phone, I thought the in-person meeting today wouldn't be that bad.

I thought wrong.

She mentioned that she had spoken to our previous sitter over the phone, and she (the previous sitter) had asked her to tell me how very sorry she was about Tex's passing. I just broke down. It was embarrassing, and I felt like an idiot, but I couldn't help it. Almost six months after the fact, and I still find myself stifling a feeling of surprise at finding my house dog-free. It's not a good feeling, and I guess it's not going to go away any time soon. *sigh*

The good thing was that Kitty seemed to take right to the new sitter. She is very much a cat person, and I think she is going to work out just fine. Initially, they had matched us with a male sitter. Usually, I would not have any objections to that, but Kitty is not very friendly around men. She is fine with my hubby and with my dad ... but it took, literally, almost a year before she was comfortable enough to be in the same room with them. She came to me as a stray, and I've always suspected she was abused by a man when she was younger. Anyhow, given the circumstances, I asked to switch to a female sitter. After seeing how comfortable Kitty was with her today, I feel like I made the right choice.

In other, more mundane news, the floor is finished. HOORAY!! Now, the very looooong process of putting everything back together begins. (DRAT) I've been taking this chance to go through things and get rid of some junk that had rather piled up. We have a very large stack of stuff to take to Goodwill, not to mention many bags of trash. And, what's left of the old carpet, too. The floors are beautiful, though. I already love them, and I already think it's worth the effort and turmoil to get them done. This is a good thing, because there was turmoil. *laughs* I've managed to get pretty much everything put back together. Except the office. I have to wait for hubby to get the computers hooked up before I can put the desks back in place. And before I can put the rest of the stuff back in here. With the way his work schedule is this week, I'm not holding my breath. It may be several more days before I can get back up and running full speed.

I'm still watching Due South, as if the continuing barrage of silly quotes wasn't enough of a clue. I have three episodes left to watch on my Season one set, but I have to admit I'm having a hard time making myself watch them. They are the episodes where Victoria shows up again, out of the blue. I really, really dislike Victoria. Not because Fraser loves her, but because of how she is. I hate what she does to him ... and the way his life and emotions get so twisted around in those episodes. Perhaps, once I've secured the box set for Season 2, I'll be able to watch those last few eps. Knowing I have more loveable buddy-cop/mountie action to look forward to will probably give me the courage I need to face the horror that is Victoria. Ugh.

I finished the book I was reading. New Moon. It's a sequel to a book that I dearly loved. I didn't like this one quite as much, although I'm glad I read it. The lack of my favorite character didn't help my enjoyment of the story at all. He was absent for most of the story, exiting the plot toward the beginning of the book and not reappearing again until page 452. Yes, I remember the page number. Yes, I really am that pathetic.
